I was admitted from the emergency room to 8 North. I encountered many of the staff members and only one left a lasting impression on me. Rachel Boyd was the first RN that took the time to sit down and have a chat with me that was not related to assessments, pain scales, changing IV's, administering meds, drawing blood, or just simply concerned with the falls prevention alarm. It was the first time since I had arrived on the unit that I did not feel like an avatar of my own being, poked, questioned, assessed, but otherwise, not talked too. It was also the first time I cried over why I was in the hospital again. Funny thing is, the next nurse that came in and found me crying did not even inquire why I was wiping tears away when she walked into the room. Rachel was punctual, she was gentle, and she was encouraging. She went beyond administration of various "products and procedures," and treated me with a lot of kindness.
