Sarah McCraw works in an area unknown by most until you need the care, not only does she take care of the patients within the unit she also on boards and mentors new nurses coming into the Angiography area, this is very challenging for new nurses. For starters, the department only has 3-5 nurses at any one time. The nurses in this department are required to be critical care trained as many of the neurovascular patients come from the ICU.
She makes a concerted effort to spend extra time not only with her patients, but also their families, to ensure that they fully understand their plan of care and can be active participants in the healing process. She always takes time to meet all of their needs and continually goes above and beyond expectations. Her patients, their families and co-workers are genuinely appreciative of her compassionate care. She made a significant contribution to our hospital by her attention to detail of how important each part of every process is to the patient experience. Her focus on quality resulted in a successful culture change on the unit as she helped the team to overcome the resistance to change that most of us encounter. A coworker commented "The positive changes, after joined our team have been tremendous." The unit is more organized and efficient with huge gains in employee satisfaction. We have also seen measured improvement in our quality indicators and patient satisfaction scores. She is dedicated to her role and committed to improving the patient and employee experience. The entire department is grateful that she is on our team. Sarah is a compassionate caregiver always, putting the patient experience first, always examining ways to make it better.
Sarah is an amazing nurse who has great leadership qualities, she is a go getter and always willing to step in and take charge when needed, she is a young woman with wonderful ideas. Someone you could and can always count on. She has also managed to serve in a leadership role as the chair position of the Magnet Committee. This requires many hours of preparation and motivation to the staff. She gives the same care to those she works with as those she cares for. She has attended conferences to learn about Magnet and her specialty. As a younger nurse she is an aspiring leader. She participates in Community Activities, raising awareness and support for healthcare issues.
