Amanda showed compassion, human dignity, patient-centered care, patient advocacy, competency and above all excellence when she carried for patient RY. Patient RY was a patient suffering from dementia, short term memory loss and confusion and was becoming increasingly agitated throughout the day. As the nurse assigned to RY, Amanda recognized the need for intervention and put a plan into action. She communicated her plans with the Clinical Nurse Manager who helped her in overseeing her other patients while Amanda took the time to walk patient RY through the halls of the telemetry unit. For almost 4 hours, Amanda continuously cared for this patient, walking him through the unit and answering the same questions over and over. Never once throughout this time did she become frustrated or show visible irritation with the patient or the situation. She maintained a calm, collected demeanor and gave this patient the compassion, dignity, and respect he deserved.
