Hillary Snyder was originally nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient's mother who stated "My 6-year old son was recently hospitalized. Suffice it to say, the entire experience was scary for him and our family having never suffered an illness worse than an ear infection before. Hillary approached the care of my son with a genuine desire to make him feel safe, secure and both physically and mentally better. Hillary demonstrated empathy, care and compassion with each and every interaction with our family. She took the time to get my son to participate in his procedures and care, creating a sense of power and control for a scared kid who was trying to get well. We really appreciated Hillary!"
Another mother described how her son with cognitive and motor disabilities would "light up" and laugh when Hillary would interact with him. This special connection with a nurse was unique and appreciated by his mother. Hillary's manager has validated that the family-centered approach to care described by these parents is truly the way that Hillary practices every day! Her manager reports that Hillary goes to the next level to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met. Patients and parents frequently request that she be their nurse again. She's one of the sweetest people that we have ever met and everyone loves her!
Hillary is also a Preceptor who is beloved by her orientees and is a team player who consistently meets the unit's needs as well. In fact, her last day off was spent at the hospital covering for a nurse who was ill. It is evident why Hillary deserves this award!
