Nancy Vihlen is very compassionate and is always willing to help others in need. Two patients with very little resources and support were in need of help and Nancy was there to help.
A young man with lymphoma lost his job because of his illness. His only transportation was a bicycle that had a flat tire. Nancy bought him a new tire for his bike. She also lent him her car so he could go to his doctor's appointment in Miami and she took him to church with her and introduced him to the congregation.
Another patient is an elderly woman with myeloma and has no family in the Keys. She could not drive herself to a doctor's appointment in Miami. Nancy arranged for her own father-in-law to drive her on several occasions to the doctor. She also called to check on her prior to the hurricane to see if she needed help with her shutters or other preparations.
Nancy not only helped these patients in hard times, but she is always there for all of our patients by offering her professional knowledge or simply being a friend, a shoulder to lean on.
Her team work and passion for what she does make Mariners Hospital blessed to have her as an employee. Nancy is a true asset to Baptist Health. She demonstrates what it is to be compassionate and caring by being there for the patients in time of need.
