I wanted to take a moment to praise the extraordinary care that my wife, new child, and I received while patients at Methodist Women's Hospital. My wife was admitted the morning for a scheduled induction. We were in Labor and Delivery under the care of Christi Broghammer. Throughout the day we learned that Christi was a new nurse not only to Methodist Women's Hospital, but also a recent graduate from nursing school. Keeping this in mind, the charge nurse that morning assigned another nurse as support for Christi throughout the day. The two of them made an amazing team. I would like to highlight the focus on patient centered, safe, and quality care that Christi provided.
Christi took the time to really educate us on everything that was occurring during the day. She was able to clearly communicate, in a way each of us could understand, the purpose and potential side effects of each medication she was administering. Prior to doing so, she explained the process of verifying that the right medication was being given and offered the opportunity to ask any questions.
My wife's labor was long and painful, as the epidural did not work as well as anyone hoped, but that did not deter these nurses from being a strong advocates for her to the Anesthesiologists and Ob/GYN to try and better manage the pain. These ladies did everything they could to make my wife as comfortable as possible.
While her communication, listening, and compassion were amazing, what impressed me most about Christi was her humbleness and focus on quality, safety and learning. Throughout the day, she was very confident, but when there were things she was not 100% sure of, she had no problem asking for support. This act truly speaks highly of her character and unwillingness to sacrifice any degree of safety or quality.
I sincerely believe Christi exhibited all of the characteristics of what a DAISY Nurse should be. Christi is a special person who embodies the Methodist Health System Mission and Core Values and truly knows "the meaning of care".
