Erin is an exceptional nurse. She has a calm and reassuring demeanor with her patients. She develops rapports with them, and they oftentimes request her by name. As great as Erin is with her patients, she is equally as great to her co-workers. Erin frequently switches shifts and even holidays so her co-workers can spend time with their families. Erin has joined many committees in an effort to make the hospital, and the 10th floor, run more smoothly. As you can see, Erin is fabulous, but one day in August she went above and beyond even her own standards.
It was a busy day on the unit when I received the devastating news that one of my best friends had abruptly passed away. It was completely unexpected and soul-crushing. After collecting myself, I made my way to the front desk to see if someone from nights was willing to come in early for me. At the same time, Erin was just returning to the floor from a meeting. Upon hearing my news, she quickly grabbed her ID from her car, changed into surgical scrubs and without a second thought, took over my assignment with her dress shoes on. I have thanked her so many times to which she responds, "It was no big deal." I'm sure it was not a big deal to Erin because that's just who she is, but it was a huge deal to me and my family. I will forever be grateful.
