Nicole is compassionate. I was diagnosed with epiglottitis. Actually, everything in my throat was inflamed and swollen. It would have been easy to treat me like the whiny woman with the sore throat. She did the opposite. She checked on me constantly and eased my fears. I was terrified of sleeping because I was being watched to make sure my air passage did not close off. She assured me that the monitors would alert them to any distress and I was in good hands. She kept my mind off the danger. When I fell asleep with my mouth open and woke up to horrible pain she wasted no time in getting my painkillers and getting me spray to help. The next time my roommate hit her button Nicole, who was not her nurse, saw to her needs. She helped her clean up from an accident. Nicole allowed the woman to keep her dignity reminding her that med changes and drowsiness were at fault, not my roommate. She made her feel so loved. Then on my second day, she genuinely celebrated with me that my voice was back. She let me know my treatment plan for the night and let me know what changes to alert her to. She got me a cream to help with an allergic reaction to a medication change. Never made me feel silly. Her compassion knows no bounds. When she is talking to you, you truly believe you are the most important person in the world. No need is too small no request too big. She is what a nurse should be. God forbid I am ever ill again, but if I am, I want her to care for me.
