It was 2 weeks ago that my grandson was discharged from the NICU after a 47-day stay. We met many wonderful nurses and doctors who took care of him during his stay. Our nurse became our hero, Ruth Eisenberg.
My grandson's first meeting with Ruth was on a day when she was not yet his nurse and she brought over the Mamaroo, placed him in the seat in the hopes of calming him, and making him more comfortable. She had heard him crying and was lending a hand to his nurse who was on break. This was the beginning of his interaction with Ruth.
On many days thereafter, Ruth took care of him as his nurse and advocate. She was very communicative to my daughter about the baby's progress, plan for the day and evening, made sure to keep in touch with his doctors and provide the most updated information.
Ruth always tried to make my grandson feel more comfortable. She helped my daughter to give him his first tub bath which made baby and mommy much happier! She would take time to explain what she was doing to the baby, encouraged her to partake in his care, and answered many questions without hesitation!
Ruth was willing to suggest new things to the doctors to help facilitate his healing and eventual discharge from the NICU. The baby had been taking mother's milk in a bottle while being tube fed. Ruth suggested a different bottle for him and closely monitored his progress with this new bottle as well as the volumes he took. Two days after starting with the new bottle, he was discharged home.
After discharge, she called to see how the baby was doing at home. My daughter expressed that she so appreciated this gesture of care and compassion from Ruth.
We are forever grateful for Ruth's attentiveness to his situation, giving him and the family the best care and experience ever. The baby went through a long and difficult journey after birth. Thank goodness he had the chance to experience the amazing care that Ruth had to offer. We feel extremely fortunate for the care he received and extend our thanks and gratitude to Ruth Eisenberg. She will always be our hero!
