On my second stay as a cancer patient, on the 8th floor receiving a stem cell transplant, I was compelled to make certain that Beth Segall is recognized for the exceptional and compassionate nursing care that I received from her. She went above and beyond her expected duties to help me get through my illness.
I had been experiencing numerous setbacks as a result of the side effects of chemo. One of the unfortunate results was having to have surgery for a temporary ostomy. I was at my wit's end, depressed and beyond upset. Being told I would need the ostomy was the last straw in a series of events that emotionally drained me. It was then that Beth shared with me that she too had a temporary ostomy after giving birth to her son years ago. She assured me that I would be fine and even showed me her tummy and the small scar that remained from where her ostomy had been to assure me that in time everything would be okay! The fact that she shared this personal experience with me was greatly appreciated and gave me the strength to get through my journey. She was so compassionate and caring. I was very grateful to have her as one of my nurses. I am very hopeful that this exceptional nurse is recognized for her humanity and compassion. She is very deserving of the DAISY Award.
