Deven is the definition of service first. She begins every day with a smile on her face. She puts the nurses first above herself. She not only teaches skills and competencies to aid the new graduate nurses in their first year of nursing practice, but she is their shoulder to cry on when things get tough. She is the advocate for them when they feel their voice is not being heard and also offers valuable life lessons that are not easily taught. Her vast knowledge of patient care and safety never ceases to amaze me. There is not a day that goes by that I do not learn something new from her. No matter how stressful things may get, this nurse manages to have a sunny disposition and often puts everyone's needs before her own. In our department, she is the one who remembers everyone's birthdays and makes home-made cakes to make us all feel special. No matter how busy her schedule may be, she will always make time to hear out the new nurse residents in their time of need, or help a coworker who is on a tight timeline in need of assistance. Deven is a true DAISY Nurse!
