Lawana Evans stands out as an extraordinary nurse, not just because of her exceptional nursing skills, but also for the special ways she finds to connect to patients. This was exemplified recently when she reached out to a patient at home receiving hospice care. This child loved to have sing-alongs when he came to clinic, and since he couldn't get to us anymore, Lawana used the Child Life iPad to Facetime with him for one last sing-along. She gathered the staff around and they sang "Rocky Top" together. The next song he requested was one Lawana didn't even know, but she pulled up the lyrics and sang it to him anyway. The patient passed away at home a few days later, but it was clear that on that day, Lawana brought joy to this child and his family amid their suffering.
