There was a 39-year-old female working out at the gym and started having chest pain. She texted her husband that she was having chest pain and her heart was "beating funny". The gym called 911 and EMS arrived. The fire department on the scene documented the patient complained of nausea and vomiting that started during her workout. She was sent to the ED via BLS. The EMT in the BLS ambulance assessed the patient and she complained of left-sided chest pain radiating to her back.
Upon arrival at the ED, the EMT spoke with David Molina. The patient was going to be placed on the fast track. David quickly placed the patient in their room and obtained an EKG and knew it was not normal. He quickly showed it to the ED MD. The patient was pale and clammy. Dr. P assessed the patient and called a code STEM. The patient went to the cath lab. She went into V-fib as they were transporting her to the lab, and they shocked the patient on the gurney and got her back. She ended up having a 97% LAD blockage. If it was not for David's quick assessment the patient probably would have coded in the ED.
Dr. P later stated the patient informed him that her father had died of a heart attack in his fifties. She also has four young children. I really feel that David prevented a tragedy that could have happened and saved four kids from losing their mother.
