Bug has been a long time employee of Bryan Health. She is committed to the organization and ensures that we are able to continue to care for patients. Bug works as a nurse auditor and monitors compliance with extremely complex Medicare regulations that are not always clear and easy to interpret. As she identifies risks, Bug meets with leaders to see how we might minimize the risks. While Bug does not directly care for patients, she indirectly ensures that we can continue to exist as an organization and her work helps to promote trust that the community has in Bryan.
Bug does not have an easy role. She points out flaws in clinical documentation. There are times that clinicians can get frustrated or defensive. Bug has a great approach to working with clinicians. She is quick to take responsibility if she missed information. Bug is also great at helping clinicians understand that she is looking at our document like any third party and that if the story is not clear to her, it is likely unclear to a 3rd party auditing our records externally.
Bug is committed to Bryan's core values. She consistently displays "One Team, One Purpose" by engaging with clinicians to find documentation gaps and solutions. She is very knowledgeable about regulations and displays "Know the Way, Show the Way". Bug ensures that any communication from third-party payers on audit focus areas is shared with the staff that need to know. Bug "Cares like Crazy" making sure that the organization is financially viable to continue to care for patients. She assists departments in developing action plans to support compliance and is willing to "Go the Extra Mile" and review changes to documentation to ensure that they meet the requirements of the regulations.
Nurses behind the scenes like Bug deserve to be recognized through a DAISY Award and I can't think of someone more fitting who role models Bryan's Core Values, who has been a dedicated longtime employee of Bryan - than Bug.
