We had a 102 yr old patient present to the ED for the second time within a day. The patient was in the end stages of life and was admitted to the medical floor for end of life care. Monica was the nurse to take the patient and I'm so thankful she did. Monica bathed the patient, put lotion on her very dry skin, fixed her hair and ensured she was in a clean warm gown and linens. Monica was so compassionate and attentive to this patient. Monica was the absolute best at ensuring this patient did not pass alone after the family had left for the night. Monica arranged for all the caregivers that worked that night on the medical floor to cycle through at 15 minute intervals. This patient was not left alone once until she passed peacefully this morning. This kind of extraordinary care is exactly what the DAISY Award embodies.
