Leslie cared for our daughter. She made sure we understood as a family what the care plan was. When we were concerned about our daughter's dressing, Leslie took the time to look at it and explained what she saw and what needed to be done to keep our daughter happy and healthy. Leslie was always very careful to be in the proper outfit for our "contact" patient and explain what it was for. She was always sure to wash hands before seeing her and after seeing her. She always reviewed our daughter's chart on the phone prior to giving meds or changing IV or dressings, which was very reassuring since our daughter has a sensitivity to adhesive. She took great care and time in finding the right tape to help our daughter stay healthy and happy. She was very kind and compassionate. She made us feel like our daughter was her only patient.
When we had a concern about our daughter's infection worsening, Leslie promptly attempted to contact the on-call hospitalist and when she was unable to get in touch with her, she reached out to our neurosurgeon team to ensure everyone on the care team was aware of the change and find the right course of action.
Leslie was so good with our sassy little 7 year old. She never made her feel scared or anxious. When our daughter did get anxious about something, Leslie knew just what to say and do to make her feel good again. I am very grateful to have encountered such a smart and compassionate nurse, who didn't make us feel like just another room number but like family and someone she truly cared for. Our daughter saw the app on the tablet called "DAISY Award" and asked what it meant. We explained to her and she immediately said, "we need to do that for Leslie."
Thank you, Leslie, from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do every day and for making this hard time easier and more comfortable.
Note: This is Leslie's 2nd DAISY Award!
