I witnessed Alain Nguyen go above and beyond for one of our Veterans. It was a Friday afternoon and one of our Veterans left the hospital against medical advice and without letting anyone know, IV still intact. Once Alain realized what happened he was very quick to notify all parties necessary. Alain made several attempts to call the Veteran and his caregiver with no luck, but that did not stop him from continuing to try to get in touch with the Veteran. Between taking care of his other patients, Alain kept attempting to make contact. The Veteran finally returned his call and stated that he made it home and that the IV was still in place. Learning that the Veteran was not able to return to the hospital due to lack of transportation, after obtaining approval from his supervisors and the Veteran, Alain finished his shift and made his way to the Veteran's house, so he could remove the IV. While with the Veteran, he explained a plan of care and reminded him to go back to the VA on Monday to pick up his medications.
The Veteran did come back as directed and was impressed that Alain went above and beyond to make sure he was taken care of and safe. Alain always has a positive attitude that is infectious to anyone who meets him. He is a great team leader and truly believes in putting our Veterans first, as it should be.
