Chemotherapy is a difficult thing to go through, but especially difficult when you are a 93-year-old man, who has been healthy his whole life! My dad is that man. Two years ago, we found out he had prostate cancer, which has spread to his bones. Our family has never been through cancer like this- lab appointments, doctor appointments, shots, new meds, side-effects, etc. My dad tells people, "I've lived a long and happy life. My children and grandchildren are healthy and happy." He's got such a good attitude about cancer, life, and death.
Even so, we don't know what the future holds. Decisions to be made who we trust, what is going to happen next, are questions we have had. My dad has had wonderful care from the infusion chemotherapy nurse, Dawn Johnson. Her cheerful personality, caring attitude, compassion for my dad's situation, and carefulness have blessed us immensely! Our time at the hospital has been a positive one, especially because of Dawn. She has done a fantastic job explaining what we need to know and answering questions. She double checks on things and even went the extra mile in getting my dad an immediate appointment to see a doctor when his blood pressure was too low. She gets him warm blankets when she sees dad is cold, encourages him to keep drinking water, take naps, call if he has side-effects, and much more. She is an exceptional nurse! She has a beautiful bedside manner, and we want to thank her for all that she's done to help us, through this cancer ordeal. We can't imagine going through it without her!
