I am an employee of CMC-U and was a patient in the ED. I was very sick with what turned out to be a stomach virus. The nausea I experienced was relentless and unbearable. I received numerous doses of nausea medications with no relief. The nurse caring for me came in to discharge me and I told them I was no better than when I first came in the ER. Apparently, the physician treating me had gone off duty. The nurse had Melanie Wallace, RN, who was in charge come in to see me. She took one look at me and stated that I looked no better. She initiated contact with another ER physician and I was given more fluids and different medications than the ones that were not working. Melanie's compassion and commitment to care were greatly appreciated more than she will ever know. Melanie is a perfect example of a patient advocate and her excellence in nursing definitely shined through!
