I would like to call your attention to the outstanding treatment I received during my recent hospitalization at Sycamore Hospital. I was admitted and required surgery. I stayed in the hospital for about 10 days. I was discharged on a Friday and two days later developed a complication. I was readmitted through the emergency room. Wound care and dressing changes were needed 2 - 3 times per day. All the nursing staff provided the most attentive and efficient care at all times that I have ever received. In particular, Joyce Pennington, one of the care-giving nurses, went above and beyond in paying special attention to my care. I was unable to shower and Joyce went to the extra difficult manner of placing herself kneeling on the floor to help wash my body, and even went to the trouble of massaging my feet and applying moisturizing cream to keep my skin from eroding and drying out.
I was in pain and quite dizzy at times due to my condition and the pain medications I was receiving. Joyce paid special attention to actually anticipate when I would need pain and nausea medications. I believe Joyce is 72 years old and surely must be an angel. Joyce was responsible for other patients while treating me. She was put in a difficult situation, having to take care of me along with another terminal patient. Even under these circumstances, she was able to attend to the other patient in just as caring and loving manner as is possible.
Due to my pain and worry about my condition, I was under extreme stress. Joyce works from 7 am to 7 pm. Joyce went home and even went to extra trouble of bringing in some instrumental and religious music cd's to relax and calm my frayed nerves and stress. By the time all that had occurred she had put in a 15 hour day just to see to me and aid in my care. Joyce even went out of her way to see that my husband had coffee and received daily reports of how I was progressing.
My discharge from Sycamore has not stopped Joyce from caring or thinking of me as she continues to show her compassion by contacting me to see how I am doing. In conclusion, just let me say that the world would be a much better place if we all had more angels like Joyce.
