Recently, I witnessed Holly Myers show true compassion and caring to a patient admitted to the unit from a group home for MHMR residents. This patient had a physical age of late 40's, although his mental and emotional capacity was that of a school-aged child. Holly made a point to give this particular patient extra care and attention, as he would call her frequently on the call light. The next day, Holly was not assigned to care for this patient, however, she made frequent visits to his room to check on him anyway. She even volunteered to walk with the patient outside of the room and she took him to the nurses station to meet some of the other nurses and staff. It was clear that the patient truly enjoyed the social interaction with Holly and the other staff members, as he was smiling from ear to ear while he walked the hallways with her. Holly was able to transform the hospital from a scary place into a cheerful and friendly place in the eyes of this patient.
This is just one of the many examples of how Holly upholds our ICARE standards with each of her patients, even when they are not hers to take care of.
