In the NICU we had a critical ill baby. Our nurse Christy Prowant, ASN, RN, RNC-NIC, knew the mother of the baby found out the baby was going to be severely sick just moments before she had her baby. She provided support to this mom throughout her entire admission whether or not she was caring for the baby.
Christy also takes professional photos. After the baby was born she got permission from the mom and she brought her camera in and took beautiful photos of the baby before she became really sick. When the baby was dying, she made a collage of photos to gift to mom. These photos were so special because the mom could remember what the baby looked like before she looked so sick. She gave the mom her phone number and told her she could call anytime she needed to talk. Before the baby was about to pass, the mom called Christy on her day off to come in and be with her. Christy lives about an hour away and she dropped everything to come in and provide support to this mom. She also brought her camera then and was able to take precious photos of the mom holding her baby and comforting the baby while she passed. Christy did all this out of the goodness of her heart. I believe Christy went way above and beyond and deserves this award.
Christy did not only do this for the baby mentioned above. She came in just this past week for another baby who had been in the NICU for months who passed away. Christy so willingly uses her photography talents and her compassion at this most difficult time in families' lives. Again, she had given her name to the Mom and told her to have the CN call her if she wanted additional pictures. She said to me, "It is hard, but it makes such a difference for families."
This is just who Christy is - going above and beyond is how she lives her life.
