My grandmother had liver disease and had gone into the hospital for a spell she had that was pretty routine but everything snowballed and she took a turn for the worse. She ended up non-responsive with multi-organ failure and on vasopressin to keep her blood pressure up. She always came out of these fine but not this time and everything happened so quickly, we were emotionally stunned.
Lauren was my grandmother's nurse when she was transferred to the third floor MICU and she demonstrated such compassion and care to not only my grandmother but to all family members as well. This was especially true when we were being notified that my grandmother had multi-organ failure and there was not much else that could be done. We were devastated but having someone like Lauren there to demonstrate the level of compassion that she did, emotionally and physically reaching out to each of us with a pat on the back or hug really showed us how much she truly cared.
It takes such a special person to be in this line of work. Although I know with my grandmother passing very early this morning that she is now our guardian angel in heaven but Lauren was our guardian angel on earth during one of the most difficult times of my life. Even after working on a life or death situation in the room next to us for hours after her shift should have ended and after losing that patient she came over to us to apologize and check on my grandmother and see how we were doing and if she could get us anything. She was hours over her shift and still wasn't going home right away but coming in to see us was the first thing she did. She's an amazing nurse and my entire family felt blessed to have someone like her as a nurse for my grandmother.
Honestly I'm not sure any words I can come up with can even do her justice for how outstanding of a nurse she is.
