An orientee told the story of her preceptor in the PICU. Her name is Anastasia Pagones, RN II who has been one of the nurse resources in the PICU. They had a teenage girl with SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia) who needed an ablation and catheterization the following day. The girl and her family were racked with anxiety about the whole procedure. What Anastasia did was nothing short of amazing. She rearranged the PICU room to create a more feng shui feel to the room in full respect to her patient's Asian family. Anastasia also brought in cupcakes for the girl promising her to have a cupcake party when the whole procedure was done! Throughout the whole day, she stayed and comforted the family. When you ask Anastasia if she remembers this story, she simply shrugged and said she does it for any family. One woman's ordinary act is another's heroism. When she received her DAISY Award today, she simply said that working with the kind of nurses she works with at JDCH makes it easy to go beyond the ordinary. She receives her inspiration simply by looking around her.
