I nominate Laura Eichhorn as a recipient of the Daisy Award for her unwavering commitment to the pursuit of quality patient care based on evidence-based practice.

Laura chaired the SMMC OB Hemorrhage Collaborative as part of a statewide collaborative with a goal of decreasing the perinatal morbidity and mortality associated with this condition. As a result we have instituted new nursing processes to quantify blood loss and prevent life-threatening volume depletion. This was collaborative effort was prophetic in its timeliness as LDRP faced a true life threatening hemorrhage in December. I believe the LDRP faced the dire situation with confidence and skill because of the focus that Laura placed on this issue. As a direct result of this truly heroic interdepartmental team that patient was able to go home with her two beautiful daughters and spend their first Christmas together.

As professional nurses we should all honor someone of Laura's character and we applaud her as a true role model of lifelong learning and reminding us that we have something new to learn every day! I am proud to work beside her every day and to have her on our team!
