While Lorinda is a highly skilled and knowledgeable RN, it is her inner heart of kindness and compassion that is the focus of this nomination. Ours is the labor and delivery setting. We see patients of all walks of life and there are many times when patients come to us for needs that are beyond the usual list of pregnancy related concerns. We had a patient that would come to the desk most Wednesdays. She was homeless, dirty and hungry. The first nurse she met on that first visit was Lorinda. Lorinda gave this patient a room to rest in. She brought her food. She allowed her to clean up. But most of all Lorinda brought this young and frightened woman acceptance, love and kindness.

As her pregnancy advanced, the patient started to come every week. It was Lorinda she asked for. Lorinda was there for her all those manay weeks and was there for her when she delivered. And Lorinda was there when Child Protective Services took the baby away. Later the patient came back to see Lorinda and to thank her for all she had done.

Lorinda is tireless in her kindness and care to others. She always has the kind word and always finds the positive to say in any give circumstance. She is the model of compassion. She has a wonderful way of empowering people to be better. She does this by modeling unconditional compassion, love and caring for peaople. The beauty of Lorinda is that she does all of this without even realizing that she is doing it. It is simply her nature.
