My father was admitted to Clarkson Tower, CPCU, 7th floor, on Wednesday, 2/5/14, after having a section of his lung removed due to cancer. I am a daughter and the primary caregiver for my parents. Almost all of the nurses in the area gave really good care, but KATE is awesome!

Kate is wonderful. She was not only a great nurse, she gave good "customer" service, meaning she not only cared for the patient, but also cared for the patient's family. She kept us informed of Dad's medical treatment and kept us informed of any changes in his treatment plan.

One of the evenings that Kate was working with us, my father vomited a large amount of old blood. I happened to be giving him a pedicure at the time. I began to gather Kleenex and catch as much of the vomit as possible. My mother went to get Kate. Someone handed me a basin, and as he continued to vomit, the staff was around me helping my father. After he finished vomiting, the staff eased in and took over gracefully.

Kate had a way of controlling the situation and excusing the family from the room with finesse and care. I can't explain it completely, but she immediately felt like family. She was/is just as concerned about the family members as she was about Dad. Maybe it's because she realizes the importance of the patients' support system. I just can't get over how easy she is to work with! She is respectful, pleasant, and really conveys that she cares. My family and I were extremely pleased to have Kate three nights in a row, what a blessing! She has the ability to be personable and be a good nurse, all at the same time. That's what makes her special.

I will say that the nurses here are warm and friendly, which makes this stressful time of our life easier to bear, but Kate stands out in my eyes as being a nurse that has all the qualities of being a great nurse, having compassion and care. She has a good personality, and this is all rolled into one human being who loves her job and is good at it.
