I listened to Jen dealing with a very grouchy, elderly man who was obviously angry with the world, a little anxious, and sounded depressed. Jen had no idea I could hear her talking to this patient as he complained about everything, from her hitting his leg on the wall, which she really did not do, to his family not coming to his first wife's funeral some decades ago, his current wife wanting to leave him in the E.R., and his statement of I'm just a "pain."
Jen's caring and compassion for this man really showed in her words to him, as she asked him why he would say these things, that there were people here who cared about him. Jen told the patient that people obviously loved and cared about him because the woman with him missed work to stay by his side. I feel like Jen's words helped to soothe him and helped calm his anxiety. I believe she was his angel that day.
