Samantha Richardson is an extraordinary, compassionate nurse. Sam speaks Spanish as a second language. We do not get many Spanish speaking patients in the ED, but when we do Sam is always willing to assist with translation. On one particular day Sam cared for a Spanish speaking patient. Upon discharge Sam was concerned that the patient did not understand the discharge and follow up instructions. The next day Sam called the patient to F/U with them and make sure that they understood their instructions. The patient had not called to make the F/U apt. so Sam took it upon herself to call and schedule the apt. for the patient. She then called the patient back to confirm the apt. with them. Four of our staff members witnessed this above and beyond F/U care and nominated Sam. This is their quote "Thank you for your commitment to excellent (& complete) patient care". This act of compassion deserves acknowledgement of the extraordinary care that Samantha Richardson provided for the safety and care of her patient.
