I nominate Marilyn Tan, not only because of her exemplary years of service to this organization, but also as our relief charge nurse of a very busy, high bed capacity unit of 1G where patient turnover is fast paced and a demand for an organized, systematic yet compassionate leader is a must to work in this environment. She makes patient rounds in every room to ensure that our patients' needs are met and that our nursing care remains exceptional. Our patients always mention her in their patient survey forms, commending her for her kindness and skills. She is also an excellent resource person, a trusted mentor and preceptor who is natural at educating our new nurses and at the same time she maintains a solid working relationship with those whom she has worked with for many years. She never stops encouraging us to assume leadership roles whether it's big or small. We rely so much on her decision making skills and her knowledge and leadership makes us feel secure and optimistic that a 12 hour shift can be bearable when she is working with us.
