Tonya Bowers is the most amazing, compassionate, caring nurse that I know. On May 22nd I had the pleasure of floating to E unit. We had a 5 week old patient that needed an IV started. Tonya came up from Family Birth to give it a try. The grandmother of the patient noticed Tonya's American flag earrings and said that she liked them; they made her think of her son. Tonya told her that she had 2 sons in the military. The grandmother proceeded to tell Tonya that her son was in the military and died in the line of duty in 2007.

When Tonya got back downstairs, she sent the earrings up with instructions to give them to the grandmother. When I went in the room later on that day, the grandmother showed me the earrings and told me the story, with tears in her eyes, she said she will never forget the kindness she was shown.

I have had the pleasure of working with Tonya over the past 7 years. I have seen her love and kindness for her patients first hand. I also have been a patient of Tonya's and have received the same love and compassion. Thank you for what you do.
