Rachel was my husband's nurse during his time at GSAM. He fractured L4 vertebrae and the vertebral plasty did not give him pain relief. Every move he described as a "dagger in his back". Trying to avoid surgery was the goal of my husband. Rachel was proactive in supporting him in a kind and gentle way. She seemed energetic and did things without being asked. She creatively suggested pain relief measures. When he was making the decision of whether to have surgery or go to a rehab facility, she made phone calls to doctors in a diplomatic way. When he decided to be transferred, she was in the room being supportive and often came without being signaled. She understood the complex medications he was on more so than most. She is very perceptive about what has to be done and she does it. Her persona inspires confidence - and that's what we both needed. She came into the room and helped prepare him for the transfer, answered lots of questions and efficiently documented all his complex medications and treatments. She took his back brace on and off lots of times without even a hint of boredom. Rachel has the talent of making a decision and carrying out the implementation immediately and then reassuring the patient. She is a rare nurse and she should be honored.
