My twin sister was having difficulty breathing. She had been suffering from COPD for several years. They called EMS to transfer her to Via Christi St. Joseph. The doctor in the emergency room said she had double pneumonia and would die immediately if she didn't have a ventilator put on her, we said okay. He said he would leave it on until her children arrived from Oklahoma, 4 to 6 hours away. She was moved to the critical care unit. Andrew was the RN on duty. He gave her excellent care seeing that she wasn't suffering at all. He shared with us what all was happening and that and she was in no pain. Andrew very compassionately shared how she was feeling and what he could do for her to comfort her. Without a doubt this was the darkest time in my life as we were identical twins, we looked alike and thought alike and we're very close.

My wife and her sister had lived next-door to each other for 16 years in Wichita. They were almost inseparable. Andrew consoled her and assured her that she was comfortable. On Friday morning Andrew came back on duty and lovingly cared for and kept her comfortable and to minister to the family members. The ventilator was removed. Andrew was right there beside the family when she died, comforting them.

Via Christi is very blessed to have such a caring and dedicated person on their staff. He is truly a young man with a lot of integrity and true Christian values. He is certainly using his nursing skills in the right unit as many others need the same care and concern and love that we received at St. Joseph. Every critical care unit needs and Andrew in it to minister to the patients and their families.
