Great nursing isn't limited to clinical care. Building positive relationships with patients and their families often supports and improves clinical outcomes. For staff nurse Christopher Dilworth, RN, that means spending extra time with patients and their families to build and foster positive therapeutic relationships. Chris' approach is the essence of compassionate care and putting patients and families first.

Recently, a patient who was frequently admitted to 10 Pavilion for chronic illness passed away. Over multiple admissions, the patient and her family developed a good relationship with the staff of the unit.

"Upon hearing the patient had passed away, Chris attended her funeral to pay his respects to the deceased patient and offer support to her family," a colleague says. "In my time working with Chris he has demonstrated that nursing care extends beyond clinical expertise, encompassing the entire person."
