My 3-year-old daughter, M, had surgery at South Clinical Campus. In the pre-op area, we met Natalie Grable. Knowing it was almost time to go to the operating room we were very nervous, probably Mom more than M. Natalie introduced herself, indicating that she would be with M at the "party" the entire time. Natalie handed M an oxygen mask and said back at the "party" there was a contest to see who could blow up the biggest balloon with the mask on. M started to get really excited for the "party" and did not want Natalie to leave her side in the pre-op area. She was even allowed to keep her little pony party dress on. When the time came to be wheeled into the operating room, M said, "Bye Mom, I'm going to the party with Natalie, don't worry, I'm ok with her." Not only did Natalie calm M and make her feel safe, but she calmed me as well.
In recovery, M woke up and the first thing she said was, "Where is Natalie and my mask?" Natalie was still over in pre-op when we went looking for another mask and Natalie was right there to get it for her. M had outstanding care from everyone that day. In fact, it was so good she didn't want to go home, but Natalie stands out with her sweet, caring, calming personality. She turned a scary experience for a 3-year-old into a "party" we will never forget. Ten days later, M is still telling everyone about Natalie and the party. So, thank you, Natalie, without you and your kindness this would have been a lot more difficult for both of us. You have left an everlasting impression with M.
