I was admitted post-surgery in August and was brought back to the OR a few days later. In the evening I returned from the OR, I passed out and lost consciousness and a Rapid Response was called, followed by a stat transfer to the ICU. Kaitlyn was my nurse on the 3-11 pm shift that night and was phenomenal while providing care and comfort to me during an exceedingly stressful and frightening situation. She is an exemplary nurse, remaining calm and composed in a critical situation, all the while ensuring her patient receives the best and appropriate care. Kaitlyn did not leave my side through the assessment post Response, provided a calming voice as so much was going on around me, explained what was happening and supported me through a central line placement. She stayed well after the end of her shift to ensure appropriate transfer of care to my next nurse.
I was brought back to West 3 after a stay in the ICU and was lucky enough to have her assigned to my care, again. I was then discharged and readmitted twice more, up until my current admission. I have had Kaitlyn as my nurse several additional times and she continues to provide exceptional care. She is fully invested in the well-being of her patients, not only their physical health but their emotional health, as well. I have had a difficult postoperative period and have not had an easy time coping with all the complications I have endured. While all the nurses on West 3 have been phenomenal, Kaitlyn has that "special something" that makes her an exceptional nurse. She made me feel comfortable sharing things with her that I normally wouldn't open up about and she helped me to process so many emotions during my many weeks as an inpatient. I would like to recognize Kaitlyn Letorneau for her exceptional dedication to all patients in her care.
