I am a phlebotomist here and there is a super, awesome, amazing, God-sent nurse named Elise Moholkar from Kahn 3. Thanks to her I can participate in raising my four children, and truly continue to love the husband that God blessed me with. She saved my life by going above and beyond by catching me when I fell into a stroke. I was given TPA, was hospitalized and had lots of OT/PT/ST. I learned to talk and walk all over again and I have been back at work for eight days, and it's all thanks to God using her as a tool to catch me that day. I am here and I am thankful, and my family is too.

In April 2019, C was on our unit, Kahn 3, to obtain labs on a rather difficult patient. She was about to go on her break but did not want to leave her coworker with the responsibility to draw the patient's labs, as she had developed a rapport with him. At that point in her shift, she remembers not feeling well and despite wearing heat packs under her clothes, she had a chill that she couldn't shake off. While on the unit, C ended up passing out. Elise was near C when she started to go down and she quickly sprung into action and caught her. A code purple was called, and C was rushed off to the ER. Elise and the staff never knew what happened to C.
Today, Kahn 3 had an emotional reunion between C and Elise. She was able to tell Elise and the Kahn 3 staff her story. C ruled in with a right-sided stroke and was given TPA emergently in the ER. Admitted to the hospital, she was faced with the reality that she now had physical deficits and difficulty speaking. An even bigger concern was that C had four children at home, the youngest being a set of twins under a year old. C worked relentlessly with PT/OT/ST to work towards getting back to her baseline. She was discharged from the hospital and went to rehab to continue her recovery. She was discharged home just in time for Mother's Day and was able to participate in caring for her children, including dress shopping for her 8th grade daughter's formal dance and attend her graduation. C told us that she had been trying to find Elise ever since she was able to return to work so that she could thank her in person for saving her life. According to C, her MDs explained to her that if Elise wasn't there to catch her, she would have 'hit her head and died'.
Elise is a second career nurse with less than two years of service under her belt. The entire K3/MSDU staff knows her as kind, compassionate, and an advocate for her patients. I don't know how anyone will be able to top her guardian angel status, but it is such an honor to be working with a true DAISY Nurse.
