During an extremely busy shift with numerous admissions, deliveries, surgeries, AND working short-staffed, Judi helped facilitate an impromptu wedding ceremony for her laboring patient shortly before delivery of the baby. When Judi learned that her patient had planned to go to the county courthouse later that day to be married but had to come to the hospital in labor instead, Judi and several other of our nurses sprang into action to ensure that this patient and her fiance were married before their baby was born, as was their wish. With the on call chaplain en route, Judi and the charge nurse, Candace Haynes, gathered flowers from other bouquets on the unit, to make a bridal bouquet for the patient. The kitchen was called and plastic champagne flutes, decorated with bows made out of baby hat material, and sparkling cider were obtained to help the couple celebrate. A touching ceremony was performed by the hospital Chaplain with our nursing staff and the patient's physician in attendance, who stood by like a proud father. All of this is extraordinary and exemplary care, but especially remarkable considering how EXTREMELY busy and overworked the staff was that afternoon. This shows how truly dedicated Judi and the LDRP staff are in caring for the WHOLE patient, ensuring that their childbirth experience is the very best possible. And when I heard this story, I was not at all surprised to hear that Judi would initiate all of this on a busy day, because that is just the kind of extraordinary nurse she is!
