Michelle Hewitt went above and beyond to take great care of me in PACU. I had surgery at University when I worked down there several years ago and had a bad experience post-op so I was very nervous to be a patient again. I had very uncontrolled pain and nausea last time. Everyone was wonderful in putting me at ease, but especially Michelle Hewitt. She is a fellow resource nurse and is also going to grad school to be a NP. I came out of surgery very nauseated and in a lot of pain and she was able to quickly and effectively manage my discomfort. She also was very understanding and helpful in my difficulty using the restroom after having a catheter in surgery. She was incredibly sweet, reassuring and compassionate. And most importantly, genuine.
It is always hard to be a patient, but even more so in my opinion when you are normally the caregiver. I went into the day very nervous, anxious, scared and fearing I'd not be cared for the way I would care for my own patients and was immediately put at ease by Michelle. She made sure I was comfortable to go home and that my husband was comfortable in caring for me and my drain. She sent me with some crackers, a ginger ale and the amazing peri ice packs as well as a disposable pillow to make sure I was comfortable when I got home. I can't even express in words what a difference she made for me and how relieved and thankful I am to have had such a wonderful experience.
