No matter how busy her night was, when she called to send up a patient to my unit she would always give a brief report and then call back with updates on the patient's status. When patients arrived on the floor, it was easy to expedite an admission quickly due to her exceptional work in the ER--medications were given, orders were entered and carried out, and most importantly patients were happy. Jennifer was always pleasant and informative. We had never met face to face.
I had to bring my mother to the ER in severe pain. She was extremely compassionate and understanding. She brought us to a room and introduced us to the nurse who would be taking care of us. At this time I was informed that my mother would need to be rushed to surgery. I was in shock and started crying. Jennifer was there to sit and comfort my mother and me. I was so taken aback at this nurse's compassion and willingness to go above and beyond. I looked down at her nametag and saw that it was Jennifer! I tried to introduce myself through my tears. She continued to comfort me; she knew I was not thinking or processing like a nurse but instead a family member concerned for her mom. Jennifer continued to check on us throughout the night. When my mother was assigned her room, she helped pack us up and even transported us up to the floor. She kept in contact to see how my mother was throughout her stay in the hospital.
I believe Jennifer is the true definition of a DAISY honoree. She, without question, should be recognized for her clinical skill and compassionate patient care. Beyond that, the courtesy and empathy with which she treats her peers is something that makes her extremely special and has been such an inspiration to me! Words cannot express how comforting and kind Jennifer was to my mother and me.
