Leila is an Extraordinary Nurse. She is always on point with care. She showed caring, accountability, competency, and respect most recently when helping my husband with his wound pouch. My husband's pouch was not easy; it wasn't your regular standard ostomy pouch. My husband had a fistula with a stoma on his abdomen and the doctor was waiting for the intestines to heal in order to close him up. Any pouch he got would completely fall apart or leak. These pouches never stuck well. Often times when my husband needed someone to replace the pouch the nurses would have to get another nurse more experienced to come over and do it because it was so difficult. Unfortunately, sometimes it would take hours before a particular wound care specialist would be able to come and replace it. So my husband would have to often sit still while holding the pouch, so as to not make a mess.
Well, when Leila was my husband's nurse, and when his pouch started leaking he called her to make her aware he was needing the pouch replaced. He was expecting her to then call someone else. Well, Leila came in and immediately took the matters into her own hands and brought over the supplies she would need, and with the help of my husband she was able to replace the pouch immediately. Allowing my husband to feel more comfortable the rest of the day instead of having to wait with soiled garments until another nurse could take care of it. The pouch she replaced ended up lasting until the day of his surgery which was literally days. It was incredible! My husband was able to comfortably move around and walk without any fear of leaks or soiled garments. All because Leila was willing to take matters into her own hands and learn while doing it.
I have been able to witness Leila's care in the past on other hospital stays. I have always regretted not sending this nomination for her because she's awesome. She is one of the best nurses Tampa General Hospital has. In this day and age, with the virus, TGH is not able to have visitors. Therefore not being able to help my husband with little things or something like this can be worrisome for sure. However, as soon as I hear Leila is his nurse; I know he'll be taken good care of; I don't have to worry when she's there for him. Thank you Leila and to all the staff on 6K. You guys rock!
