Shelby had a NICU mom who came to Mother/Baby without her infant. The baby went straight to NICU and the mother came here on mag sulfate. She was on strict bed rest due to the nature of the medication. Her visitors and husband were in and out visiting the baby, but she was not able to go.
Shelby went above and beyond to allow the mother to bond/visit with her infant in the NICU. Without ever being asked, Shelby called the doctor for permission to supervise the visit with the mother in the NICU to ensure her safety and to allow the mom to visit with her infant and hold her skin-to-skin for the first time since delivery. When Shelby went into the patient's room to tell her they were going to the NICU to visit the baby, the mom was crying she was so happy.
The mother did not expect to see the baby for at least 24 hours. When we wheeled her down to NICU with her husband and she saw the baby for the first time, she was overwhelmingly happy. She had tears and so did we. I was happy to be a part of this happy moment! I'm so thankful to have a compassionate nurse like Shelby working with us.
