It was a new volunteer's first day on the job, and she was admittedly nervous. Katie Janzen was one of the first nurses she met, and boy did she make a lasting impression!

It started with the simplest things - taking initiative to ask the volunteer's name and where she went to school. Katie showed her around, explaining the ins and outs of the unit. On the volunteer's second day, there was Katie again - engaging the young volunteer in conversation and inviting her to observe patient rounds. The volunteer was struck by Katie's politeness and sweet bedside manner, especially with patients who were hard to understand.
