Heidi is a fun loving and energetic nurse. She brings her upbeat and positive attitude to work and truly represents the "Be Here Now" behavior. Heidi is incredibly bright, always demonstrating her critical thinking skills, openly troubleshooting situations to provide the Best and Safest Care at all times. Heidi uses her insight and open analysis of her patients situation and needs to mentor and role model to her peers.
Heidi is a strong advocate for her patients and for the patients of her peers. She has taken on some very difficult primary patients and has been a great advocate for each of these patients. She is supportive of new and experienced nurses alike. She readily references policies and procedures and presents each situation in an SBAR format. She is a very strong role model for her peers and for the staff she precepts. Heidi is an excellent preceptor and does a great job helping our new nurses feel comfortable and confident in the care they provide.
Heidi uses clear and concise communication skills and provides a comprehensive handoff at shift change and prior to leaving on break, ensuring that her peers are well informed and able to care for her patients. She goes above and beyond to help her peers, jumping in, helping with admissions, offering an ear to listen, feedback or a second opinion. Heidi has become the NICU's Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) dressing change champion. She assesses lines and helps with all CVAD dressing changes each week. Heidi's consistency in this role assists the unit in keeping our CVAD Hospital Acquired Conditions rate to zero.
Heidi is amazing with her patients and families. She is very compassionate and loving. She appreciates and shares in their new joys, acknowledges their fears, easily makes them feel at home and creates a trusting bond with each family she encounters. Heidi loves teaching families and preparing them for going home. She starts her teaching on admission and consistently capitalizes on each interaction to further ready her patients family to go home. Heidi is passionate about the care she provides, she is a strong advocate, teacher, mentor and role model who demonstrates the Children's values and guiding behaviors.
