Olivia is the most attentive and compassionate nurse I've ever worked with. Last week, we were taking care of a non-verbal and bedbound elderly man who had become increasingly agitated all day. After cleaning him up, she realized his abdomen looked a little distended. The patient had been urinating all day and had received dialysis, so the bladder distension was not the first thing she suspected, but rather, a blockage in the bowel.
She alerted the doctor, who ordered a KUB. After this test, she decided to bladder scan the patient anyway. She found over 900cc of urine inside. She straight catheterized the patient and got 1200cc of urine out, the most any of us working at the time had ever seen. After the straight catheterization, the patient calmed down and slept, visibly less agitated and presumably feeling much more comfortable. She was very perceptive and thought outside of the box to help this patient. She took the extra time to advocate for him even when the first test came back normal.
She routinely goes above and beyond, spending extra time in each patient's room to make them comfortable and make sure they know she is there if they need anything at all. I helped her give a bed bath to a patient that same day, and she was so caring and went the extra mile with every single step of it, treating the patient as her own mother.
Olivia consistently goes out of her way to make her patients smile while also thinking critically to help them physically. She is attentive and perceptive while also being tender and loving. Olivia deserves to be recognized for the amazing work she does!
