Deborah is one of those nurses who can inspire you to be a better nurse just by working with her. I have had the pleasure to work with Deborah for close to four years now and I'm so happy to be able to recognize all of the hard work she puts in every shift for every patient. I can't say that I have a specific story to tell you because over four years there have been too numerous to count. Deborah defines what LRH stands for when it comes to patient care. Every shift she cares for her patients as if they were her family. She is detail-oriented and never misses opportunities to ensure the patient is satisfied with their care. She fights for her patients. I have seen Deb bend over backward to get what her patients need and truly listen to the problem at hand. She ensures no request goes unnoticed. Deb puts the patient first. Her capacity to do this skill well has been pivotal in catching signs and symptoms that could have led to a different outcome.
As of recent, Deb had a patient that was complaining of horrible abdominal pain and nausea. Deb felt as though something wasn't right and within a matter of hours, the patient was being prepped for emergency surgery because of a perforated bowel. Deb listened to that patient and fought for her to ensure the care she received was swift and life-saving. This is just one example of what Deb does every time she is here.
When I work with Deb, I feel inspired to do my best work. She makes you want to be better, to do better, and to be the best nurse to your patients that you can be. That speaks volumes. That one person, one nurse can impact in that way. Even with busy nights, Deb still amazes me with the care she gives. I can say without a doubt that the care she provides has altered countless patient outcomes and their overall experience for the better. I believe Deborah Ryan deserves to be acknowledged for all the hard work she has put in and to know that it does not go unnoticed.
