A recent social media video encouraged a Main OR Nurse Stephanie Pimentel to do something special with numerous surgical wraps that are thrown away each week. The video showed how to turn these wraps into sleeping bags for the homeless. Stephanie asked her peers in the OR to start saving these wraps. Soon the Operating Room saved hundreds.
The St. Vincent's Volunteers got involved, thanks to the Volunteer Manager. The volunteers have now sewn close to 100 sleeping bags with borrowed and donated sewing machines.
The sleeping bags were distributed by the surgery department at the southside church.
Thanks to Stephanie many homeless will have a dry and warm place to sleep.
