I am a nurse on 9 West, and we had just received a patient from the operating room. Although the OR has worked hard to get the patient cleaned up, he still needed a lot of attention. The patient was filthy and had very thick calluses over his heels.
Jennifer received the consult and came to the bedside immediately. The patient had only been on our unit for about five to ten minutes at that point and she immediately got to work helping us clean the patient and she focused on the feet. She spent approximately two hours cutting the patients toenails (which were curled and covered in black dirt) and removing the calluses on the patient's feet. She also stayed after to help us clean up the rest of the patient (which was a job). All she was required to do was recommend treatment for the patient, but she went above and beyond.
This patient was non-compliant with medical treatment both inside and outside the hospital, but Jennifer still took the time to look over his entire body and document all the abnormalities.
