A few weeks ago, Jaimie acted as a true hero in an emergent situation. She was enjoying some late summer sun with her family at a local pool when another mother had the unthinkable happen. Their small child fell into the hot tub for an unknown amount of time, and by the time he was located, he was found unconscious and cyanotic. The mother pulled her child out and screamed for someone to help. Luckily Jaimie was there and had been trained in BLS and ACLS. Although Jaimie did not know the mother or young child, she sprang into action. She took the young child from the frantic mother and immediately started CPR as EMS was activated. In the words of the mother, 'Had she not been there immediately springing into action, my son may not be here today.' The child was conscious and breathing by the time EMS arrived and was taken to the hospital. According to the child's mother, 'The nurses in the ED said whoever did the CPR was highly skilled and did an excellent job because his lungs were so clear immediately after- he didn't even have any residual water in his lungs.' While the child was not ultimately treated at Saint Mary's, Jaimie acted as she was trained to do in an extremely stressful and time-sensitive situation. I am proud to know that a member of our team acted so heroically, she is a true DAISY Nurse.
