Kim has been awarded for her exemplary service, continued commitment to excellence and positive attitude.
On one occasion, she worked with a floater from a surgery unit who was nervous and verbalized that he has not administered chemotherapy on his unit. Kim showed the nurse how to calculate BSA, how to check chemotherapy calculations, what IV tubing to use, and went in the patient’s room with him. She later on reviewed other chemotherapy regimen with him and he was very grateful for her assistance.
Kim provides care to our patients that transcend providing basic physical needs. Two weeks ago, Kim cared for a 21 year old male melanoma patient with LMD. He informed Kim that he could not sleep that night. Kim came back to the room and created a makeshift, basketball hoop and shot some hoops with him. The patient and his mom were really grateful for Kim and the time she spent with him.
Kim is really gentle with her patients. One of her patients stated she allayed their fears and anxiety as Kim sat with them during PICC insertion and talked to them throughout the procedure so they knew what to expect.
Comments from Kim’s patients:
“Kim always checks in to see if I needed anything. She makes me feel valuable.”
“Kim – Thanks for cheering me up when I’m feeling down. Hugging me when I cry. Understanding my fears and talking me through them. For being honest when it would be easier to lie.”
“Kim is an outstanding nurse. Very informative and caring. Really seemed as if she cared. Kind of people we need in nursing.”
“Kim, we loved your energy and the way you anticipated our needs. You were our nighttime diva nurse – very knowledgeable and considerate with all your help.”
